Habema's Solar Cell Initiative Brightens Lives in Sokamu Village

YAHUKIMO - In a heartfelt display of service and innovation, the Indonesian Armed Forces Operational Command HABEMA’s Infantry Battalion 6 Marines has brought light—both literally and metaphorically to Sokamu Village in the Dekai District, Yahukimo Regency, Papua Pegunungan Province. On Friday, December 27, 2024, the Marines Task Forces, led by Captain Septian from the Halabok Post, launched their “Bright Papua” program by installing solar-powered lamps to illuminate residential areas and public roads.

The program, spearheaded by Commander Lieutenant Colonel Rismanto Manurung, emphasizes the importance of addressing essential community needs. Recognizing the challenges faced by Sokamu residents due to the lack of adequate lighting, the Halabok Post initiated this transformative project to enhance the safety and quality of life in the area.

In a collaborative effort, Captain Septian and his team worked closely with village leaders and community members to identify priority areas for the solar lamp installations. This partnership ensured the program was well-received and tailored to the village’s specific needs. During the installation process, the residents actively participated, showcasing the strong bond and trust between the Task Forces and the community.

By Friday afternoon, the village was glowing with new solar-powered lights, marking a significant milestone in Sokamu’s journey toward progress. Expressing his gratitude, local community leader Mr. Waipan Murib shared, "Praise God, thank you, Commander Marines. We are delighted that our Honais and Roads are no longer dark. God bless TNI."

Brigadier General Lucky Avianto, Commanding General of HABEMA, praised the Marines Task Forces for their impactful initiative, stating, “The Bright Papua program exemplifies TNI’s dedication to fulfilling the basic needs of communities and accelerating development in Papua.” The program not only provides much-needed lighting but also symbolizes the Indonesian Armed Forces’ commitment to fostering progress, safety, and hope for the region.

The Bright Papua program in Sokamu Village stands as a beacon of TNI’s resolve to bring lasting change, uniting the community and military in their shared vision for a brighter future.
